European style returns to the former Mobili space at 2201 Wisconsin Ave. this Saturday, April 21, when Ligne Roset opens its doors. The French company designs and manufactures contemporary furniture and home accessories. As its corporate website states, “Ligne Roset is synonymous with modern luxury and invites customers to revel in a contemporary, design-forward lifestyle.”

Part of the former Mobili space is still being readied for Natuzzi Italia, a furniture boutique scheduled to open in mid-May, says Dani Rose, one of three co-owners of the two stores, which will share staff and a connecting passageway. The Natuzzi shop will be the first in the U.S. to offer an exclusive line of furniture, lighting, and other home accessories designed by the Italian firm Natuzzi, “the world leader in leather sofas,” Rose adds. “Whether you are in the market for architectural design (Ligne Roset) or everyday living (Natuzzi Italia), we have something for you.”

Along with Rose, the stores’ owners are David Zein, who has 20 years of interior design experience, and colleague Olivier Valette of Paris.

Ligne Roset will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and at noon on Sundays. It will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, and at 6 p.m. on its other opening days. The shop’s Monday hours will be by appointment only.

From the January 2011 edition of the Glover Park Gazette:

Sullivan’s Toy Store & Art Supplies (3412 Wisconsin Ave.) continues to hunt for a new location, and several Glover Park properties have been in play. But so far, the shop has not managed to strike a deal with a landlord. We hear that at least one landlord with a vacant Glover Park storefront has turned the family-owned store down because the landlord is holding out for a national retail tenant. Owner Tam Sullivan would not confirm that or say which Glover Park properties he has investigated, but two that would seem to meet the store’s square footage needs are the combined Fan Fair and Vespa space at Georgetown Plaza (2233 Wisconsin Ave.), vacant since late 2008, and the former Mobili space (2201 Wisconsin Ave.), vacant for more than three years.
