Coming in January: Angelico Pizzeria at 2313 Wisconsin, the long-vacant former home of Mama Maria’s Italian restaurant. Angelico, a local chain, will open a restaurant on the first floor of the building and move its corporate headquarters to the second floor, says chief operating officer Kert Gennings.

Known for its hearty portions and quick delivery, Angelico (pronounced ann-je-LEE-ko) will add a late-night option to the Glover Park dining scene, staying open until midnight during the week and “probably till one or two” on weekends, Gennings says. The restaurant has applied for a license to sell beer and wine, he adds.

First sunny day in a week
A team of workers spent today, Sunday, changing out the storefront windows of the old Mama Maria’s building, which has been vacant for well over a year. We asked them what sort of shop was coming into the space, and one of them told us “pizza.”

Dare we hope for Thai?

From the October 2009 Glover Park Gazette:

Mama Maria’s at 2313 Wisconsin may soon be the home of a new food-service establishment, according to an attorney for the owners, the Tropea family. Though no lease had been signed at press time, the owners were in serious negotiations with an established local chain seeking to add a Glover Park location. Such a tenant would be a victory for neighbors who opposed a plan by Good Guys, the strip club next door at 2311 Wisconsin, to expand into the long-vacant storefront. Last year, in order to win a liquor license renewal, club owner Ben Zangeneh agreed not to pursue his expansion plans.
