We got pickpockets. On July 12, a shopper at Whole Foods (2323 Wisconsin Ave.) reported her wallet missing from her purse, though she didn’t know whether it had been stolen in the grocery store or at her office in Georgetown Plaza (2233 Wisconsin Ave.). Then, on July 20, a patron at Kitchen reported that her pocketbook had been stolen by someone there. And at Surfside (2444 Wisconsin Ave.) on July 21, a patron reported that her wallet had been stolen out of her purse after she left it unattended to go collect her food.

A patron of Kitchen (2404 Wisconsin Ave.) faces assault charges after getting kicked out of the restaurant. On July 24 at around 2:30 a.m., a staffer asked X* to leave because he was setting napkins on fire, according to a police report. Outside the restaurant, X pulled a knife and waved it in the staffer’s face, asking, “Do you know what I do for a livin’?” the report stated.

X pled not guilty to charges of simple assault and possession of a prohibited weapon. A status hearing on the case is scheduled for October 14.

A tax lien filed against Kitchen (2404 Wisconsin Ave.) “has been taken care of,” according to Brooke Falk, attorney for the restaurant. The January lien for $18,784 was published in the Washington Business Journal in May, but Kitchen’s taxes are now up to date, she says. “It was a new business, and the business just got behind” on its payments, Falk explains.

This afternoon, a couple hundred young professional types milled around the sidewalk in front of Kitchen (2404 Wisconsin) and Gin & Tonic (2408 Wisconsin), blocking the flow of pedestrian traffic. (Click photo to enlarge.) The group was waiting to board two tour buses for Swine on the Vine, an annual pig roast in Woodford, Virginia sponsored by the nonprofit Capital Club.

Why plan to pick up hundreds of passengers along a narrow, busy sidewalk? Perhaps because of the proximity of Gin & Tonic, whose $6-a-pitcher Saturday beer special is mentioned in the event’s publicity material—and whose co-owner, Fritz Brogan, serves on the board of the Capital Club.

Kitchen at 2404 Wisconsin has announced a new “Southern-themed” cocktail list, coming next week. The list features a few gimmes (mint julep, hurricane) and some GIMMEs (adult root beer float: root beer, vanilla ice cream, bourbon, and Bailey’s Irish Cream) (!!!). Details on the recipe for the “Glover Park Mojito” were not available at press time.

UPDATE: The restaurant just announced that its burgers are half-price on Tuesdays. Still no word on the GP mojito.
