2209 Wisconsin Ave., 9/25/13Commenter Scott Philips reports that there seems to be a “for rent” sign on the Sushi Ko building, 2309 Wisconsin. The restaurant closed unexpectedly this summer due to a city tax lien, but at the time owner Daisuke Utagawa said that it would reopen. Utagawa, who owns the building as well as the restaurant, could not immediately be reached for comment, but we’ll update when we hear back from him.

UPDATE: We verified Scott’s report by snapping the pic above. No word yet from Mr Utagawa.

Sushi-Ko (2309 Wisconsin Ave.) has been closed since June 28 due to the expiration of its business license, but the restaurant hopes to reopen next week, its owner told The Washington Business Journal. The restaurant’s unexpected closure was first reported by Prince of Petworth.

Sushi-Ko owner Daisuke Utagawa declined to tell WBJ why the license had expired, but Najma Roberts, a spokeswoman for the D.C. Department of Health, told us that the restaurant “has a tax issue with OTR,” the Office of Taxation and Revenue. “DCRA [the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs] issued them a notice not to operate until resolved,” Roberts said.
