At 7:13 a.m. today, the Metropolitan Police Department received a report of a sexual assault in the parking lot behind Bruegger’s Bagels (2338 Wisconsin Ave.), a spokesman says. The parking lot is currently closed while police investigate.

UPDATE: A member of the Glover Park Yahoo newsgroup reports that she was in the parking lot around 7 a.m. and saw police find “two drunken girls laying on the grass who could not stand up.”

UPDATE 2: As of Thursday, July 12, this incident was still under investigation. According to MPD Captain Jeffrey Herold, “an unconscious female” whose “clothing was disheveled” was discovered in the Bruegger’s parking lot on the morning of July 7. From the February 2011 edition of the Glover Park Gazette:

The future Chipotle Mexican restaurant at 2338 Wisconsin Ave. will probably open at the end of April, though there’s no firm date set, says company spokesperson Katherine Newell Smith: “It could move one way or the other” based on the speed of construction. Along with its Wisconsin Avenue storefront, the restaurant will have an entrance from the rear parking lot it shares with Bruegger’s Bagels (2334 Wisconsin Ave.), and it will seek city permission to build a 16-seat patio in the back, as well as a 24-seat dining area inside, she says.

UPDATE: This store is now slated to open in late May.

FYI, there's a city-owned cut-through at 37th and Tunlaw, but it's blocked off.From the November 2009 Glover Park Gazette:

The Northeast Passage is back, and it smells like pumpernickel. Ever since Glover Park’s two-sided Blockbuster store closed in 2007, thus shutting off a convenient shortcut to the commercial strip, shoppers from 37th Street and beyond have been forced to walk south to W Place or north to Pearson’s and then double back on Wisconsin Avenue—a detour that can add 1/3 of a mile to a round trip.

Now managers at the Bruegger’s Bagels at 2334 Wisconsin, which took over part of the old Blockbuster space, have confirmed that the much-missed shortcut is open again. Staffers don’t object to thru traffic, one manager joked to us, “as long as you say ‘hi’ as you go past.”
