On June 11, Margaret Ruth “Miss Peggy” Dickie, 79, a resident of Carillon House (2500 Wisconsin Ave.), died after being hit by a Peapod grocery delivery truck at Calvert Street and 37th Street. The truck was stopped at a red light on 37th Street, then turned right onto Calvert, where it hit Miss Peggy, who was in the crosswalk heading north, according to the Washington Post.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the case, according to Lieutenant Ronald Wilkins. “As of yet, there have been no charges filed against the driver of the truck,” Wilkins writes in an email. Charges could be filed in the future “if the investigation reveals negligence or impairment on the behalf of the driver,” he adds. The driver is cooperating fully in the investigation, according to Wilkins.
