From the June 2010 edition of the Glover Park Gazette:

While several Glover Park restaurants did big business during February’s snowstorms, Max’s Best Homemade Ice Cream at 2416 Wisconsin got walloped: a Pepco power outage caused the shop to shutter for two weeks for repairs and cleanup. “It takes time to get back to normal,” says owner Max Keshani. But all is restored, and Max’s once again offers a rotating selection of flavors from the store’s 200 recipes, prepared on-premises.

From the June 2010 edition of the Glover Park Gazette:

It’s license-renewal season on the Avenue: nearly half of our restaurants will appear at Alcoholic Beverage Control Board hearings this month or next, hoping to win two-year renewals of their licenses to sell drinks.

The hearings for Kitchen at 2404 Wisconsin and Rocklands at 2418 Wisconsin are scheduled for June 7.

Kavanagh’s at 2400 Wisconsin, Bourbon at 2348 Wisconsin, Blue Ridge at 2340 Wisconsin, Breadsoda at 2233 Wisconsin, and Town Hall at 2218 Wisconsin will appear before the board on July 5. Petitions and letters of opposition for the June hearing were due in late May, while those for the July hearing are due June 21.

[UPDATE: Heritage India at 2400 Wisconsin will appear before the board on July 12. Petitions and letters of opposition for the hearing are due June 28.]

Angelico’s, Glover Park – m4m (Wisconsin Ave.)

Date: 2010-05-15, 3:19PM EDT

You were working behind the counter at Angelico’s on Wisc. Ave (in glover). I came in Saturday afternoon, and we talked for a bit (you liked my glasses). Don’t know if you were flirting or just being friendly, but if you swing that way and want to do something sometime, hit me up.

If this sounds like you, here’s a link to the ad: Missed Connections.

Check out this Craigslist posting (especially if you’re a bartender with a following looking for a job in Glover Park). Which “established restaurant in Glover Park” with a Dupont Circle affiliate has the room and the license to “add a legitimate bar” by late May? Heritage India seems the most likely suspect—its first-floor barroom has been idle for the past year or so—but if you have other ideas, spill ’em in the comments.

UPDATE: We responded to the ad and heard back from an employee of Heritage India’s Dupont Circle location, who confirmed that the renovated bar space in Glover Park is set to reopen this month with a regular South Asian tapas happy hour. Details as events warrant.

Two (possibly three, depending on availability) positions looking to be filled:

The first position is at an established restaurant/bar in Dupont Circle. The position is part time (2-3 days a week, 4:30 to 10) and would be perfect for someone looking to supplement their income a little as well as acquaint themselves with a superb set of regulars who primarily chat about international travel and politics. If you dig Trivial Pursuit then you’d like this job. In short it is work and play rolled into one.

The second position is at an established restaurant in Glover Park that is adding a legitimate bar to its premises (looking to open third week of May). This position is full time. The ideal candidate could work 5 to 7 shifts a week (daily from 4:30 to 10 or so). This bar will essentially be building its clientele from ground zero, so the ideal candidate would have a following, or the strength to build one, in the Glover Park/North Georgetown area.

Please inquire for details/send resume. Please put ‘First’ or ‘Second’ or ‘Either’ in the heading to indicate which position you are seeking.

Thanks…

Lydia DePillis of City Paper toured the gutted Georgetown Library—slated to reopen this fall—and dubbed it a "bibliophile’s palace." Architects have nearly doubled the building’s usable space without adding to its footprint. Closed since a 2007 fire, the library’s new incarnation will include seven “great rooms” for reading, a public meeting room with kitchenette, and a “reading terrace” out back overlooking Book Hill Park.

As reported under the Washington Post’s objectively awesome print headline, "Hair They Come to Save the Day," a San Francisco nonprofit has begun making hair-filled booms to help soak up oil from the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Now Hair Lounge at 2201 Wisconsin is donating its hair clippings to the effort indefinitely.
