Sweetgreen looks open! And BodySmith is out.

The new Sweetgreen at 2200 Wisconsin Ave. seems to be serving its salads and fro-yo today, according to a tipster.

Meanwhile, a “for lease” sign has gone up in the basement space in the same building, which BodySmith had told us they’d be moving back into after a side door was constructed. “A week or so ago, at night the equipment and flooring were removed,” another tipster emailed us. (We work long hours across town! We love our tipsters.) “Tonight, there is a ‘For Lease’ sign on the W Street door to the BodySmith space advertising space ideal for retail showroom or personal fitness.” A representative for BodySmith confirmed to us that the gym will not be returning to Glover Park.

Sweetgreen to open in November, Eater DC says

As we predicted, salads and fro-yo are coming to the BodySmith building (2200 Wisconsin Ave.). A representative of Sweetgreen has confirmed as much to Eater DC. The new location will open in November and will have “lots of window seating,” the blog reports.

Sweetgreen coming to BodySmith space? (Update: Yes!)

We’re hearing that 2200 Wisconsin Ave.—home to BodySmith Training Gym and, since last fall, to large “for rent” banners as well—may soon welcome local fro-yo-and-salad chain Sweetgreen. Nic Jammet, Sweetgreen’s co-owner, confirmed last week to City Paper that he expects to open a Glover Park location, though he added that no papers had yet been signed.

According to one source, the plan is for BodySmith to retain gym space in the building’s basement via a separate entrance, while Sweetgreen inhabits the glass-fronted retail space above.

Neither Jammet nor the owner of BodySmith responded to requests for comment.

UPDATE: A member of the Glover Park listserv writes, “It seems that Sweetgreen is coming at the expense of yoga and boot camp classes at Body+Smith Body+Smith is closing their front studio space effective Tuesday [July 31] to give the entire space over to Sweetgreen. They will also be creating a side entrance on W Place for their training and spa clients.”

Light fingers on the Avenue

From the March 2012 edition of the Glover Park Gazette:

Sometime on the afternoon of January 14, someone stole $240 in cash from the till at BodySmith (2200 Wisconsin Ave.), according to a police report. And on February 1 at around 9 p.m., a man entered CVS (2226 Wisconsin Ave.) and stole four containers of deodorant, a police report stated. He fled southbound on Wisconsin Ave. There were no suspects in either case, police sources said.

BodySmith not leaving, employee says

BodySmith (2300 Wisconsin Ave.) is staying put, despite a “for rent” sign outside the gym. When the sign appeared, neighbors wondered whether the personal-training facility were planning a move, but a staffer there tells us the sign refers to office space for rent upstairs from the workout space. “We’re staying. We’re here,” he assures.

Balance Gym’s marketing annex at 2241 Wisconsin is up and running: running straight for members of Washington Sports Club next door at 2251 Wisconsin. Though Balance owner Graham King had told us the new storefront would be used to promote spa services—”(massages/facials/sauna/steam/etc)”—at SomaSpa, which shares Balance’s 2121 Wisconsin location, a Balance tout spent this morning handing out cards flogging the gym’s new membership deal: $59/month if you sign up by June 30. (There’s also a onetime initiation fee of $99, but it’s credited towards personal training or spa services.)

Meanwhile, a whiteboard in WSC’s lobby announces discounts that gym has negotiated for its members with local merchants. With your WSC member barcode, you’ll get the following deals:
